Color Codes in Minecraft Minecraft color codes adds colors to text in-game. The section sign §, followed by the color code, is used to format text in Minecraft. To type the section sign, press the Alt 2 1 keys. You can also copy the § symbol from this page, and then press Control V or ⌘ Cmd V to paste the symbol into a book.

The section sign can be entered into book and quills in normal gameplay. In Bedrock Edition, the section sign can also be entered into world names, signs, in the chat, and renaming items. However, pasting will not work.
